ZoodLabs, renowned for providing high-speed internet services through its wireless broadband network in Freetown, had previously committed to delivering efficient internet connectivity across Sierra Leone. This commitment was prominently highlighted during the launch of the Agenda for the Earth System Modifying Framework (ESMF), an open-source software initiative for climate numerical weather prediction.

Since Parliament ratified an agreement on April 28, 2022, between the Ministry of Information and Communications and ZoodLabs (SL) Ltd., the company has been pivotal in Sierra Leone’s technological development. This agreement entrusted ZoodLabs with managing the Cable Landing Station, a critical infrastructure component for the nation’s connectivity.

However, repeated internet disruptions since ZoodLabs’ takeover have raised serious concerns about their capacity to manage such essential services. Both stakeholders and citizens are now demanding a thorough investigation to identify the root causes of these disruptions and ensure future connectivity remains stable and reliable.

The need for transparency and accountability from ZoodLabs is paramount as the situation develops. An investigation aims to provide insights and solutions to prevent further disruptions, safeguarding Sierra Leone’s digital infrastructure and restoring user trust.

In response to recent concerns, ZoodLabs issued the following statement: “Dear Clients, we are currently experiencing a fault at the Liberia station, which has affected Sierra Leone’s internet service. ZoodLabs and ACE are working diligently to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”

Ensuring a stable and reliable internet connection is crucial for Sierra Leone’s continued technological advancement. The forthcoming investigation will be essential in addressing current issues and implementing measures to prevent future disruptions.
