Step 1 Location Identification

The applicant identifies the proposed mining location (plot) in collaboration with a member of the chiefdom mining allocation committee.

Step 2 Land Acquisition

The applicant liaises with the Mines Warden to survey the land, demarcate boundaries, and plot a sketch map on the application form

The assigned chiefdom authority signs the Surface Rent Agreement (Form C12) and issues a surface rent receipt to the applicant.

Step 3: Survey and Demarcation

The applicant submits the completed application form(s) to the Area Superintendent

The Area Superintendent attaches a checklist to ensure that all required documents accompany the application form, assesses the sketched map, signs it, and forwards it to the Mining Engineer/Geologist.

The Mining Engineer/Geologist verifies the GPS coordinates, confirms the payment of the complete license fees, assesses the Environmental Management Plan (Form C13), signs the checklist, and forwards the application to the Regional Manager.

The Regional Manager approves the application and requests the preparation of an Order To Pay (OTP), forwarding it to the Cadaster Clerk.

Step 4: Vetting

The Cadaster Clerk prepares the OTP, which is signed by the Regional Manager, allowing the applicant to effect payment at the bank

The applicant provides the Finance and Admin Officer (FAO) with the bank pay-in slip for the issuance of the National Minerals Agency (NMA) receipt.

The FAO attaches the NMA receipt to the application form and forwards it to the Cadaster Clerk for processing.

Step 5 Payment

The applicant completes the payment process, and the Cadaster Clerk finalizes the application processing. This streamlined process aims to facilitate the acquisition of artisanal mining licenses in Sierra Leone, ensuring that all necessary steps are followed for effective land management and resource allocation
