In a significant operation, the Sierra Leone Police, in collaboration with the National Revenue Authority (NRA) Anti-Smuggle Unit, successfully intercepted four trucks filled with palm oil products that were en route for illegal export to neighboring countries.

The operation, which took place over several days, involved thorough surveillance and strategic patrols in the Gbalamuya Customs border bypass routes and Kambia township. Targeting Shekaya village in the Dixon chiefdom of Kambia district, the team worked discreetly to avoid alerting potential smugglers.

During the patrols, authorities intercepted four trucks with the registration numbers ARS 415, RC 6863-T, AO-0356, and AVI 898. The vehicles, which included both six-tyre and ten-tyre trucks, were fully loaded with jerry cans of palm oil. Notably, these trucks had already passed through the Rogbaray Joint Security Forces Checkpoint and Madamaya Police Checkpoint on their way to Guinea.

Among those apprehended during the operation was Lahai Bawoh from Koribondo Road in Bo City, who claimed ownership of two of the trucks. Bawoh is currently in protective custody at the Kambia Police Divisional Headquarters and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

The four trucks are now secured under police protection as authorities continue their efforts to identify and apprehend the true owners of the smuggled palm oil, who are currently at large. The successful interception of these vehicles underscores the commitment of Sierra Leone’s law enforcement agencies to combat illegal trade and protect the nation’s resources.
