The Human Resource Director of Leone Rock Metal Group (LRMG), Mr. Mohamed Daffe, vehemently dismissed allegations of immigration fraud and discrimination against employees during an emergency news briefing held on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the company’s head office in Freetown.

This response follows claims made by three local tabloids regarding immigration fraud and discrimination at LRMG, Addressing journalists, alongside top management officials, Mr. Daffe stated that approximately 90% of their workforce consists of Sierra Leoneans, complemented by a diverse group of foreign employees, including Chinese nationals, Ghanaians, Rwandans, South Africans, and Europeans. “You have to ask yourself how much more inclusive a workforce can be than what we have,” he questioned.

Mr. Daffe emphasized that the company’s corporate culture is built on respect among workers, which he identified as a key factor in maintaining high standards and a harmonious workplace. “You cannot bring together such a diverse workforce without a foundation of respect, and that’s why we continue to thrive,” he asserted.

He highlighted LRMG’s commitment to community engagement, stating, “We not only share with our communities, but we also involve our staff because we genuinely care about them. Every initiative we undertake is done in partnership with the community, reflecting our cooperative spirit.”

In response to media claims that LRMG restricts employees from joining trade unions, he clarified that the company respects workers’ rights to unionize and that their employees are members of the United Mines Workers Union.

Regarding the allegations of immigration fraud, Mr. Daffe assured that LRMG strictly adheres to all immigration laws and regulations in Sierra Leone, asserting that any suggestion of wrongdoing is both inaccurate and misleading. He urged the media to verify information before publication to avoid spreading falsehoods about reputable companies like LRMG.

The Director of Community Affairs, Ansu Bapoto Momoh, reiterated the company’s commitment to compliance with laws and regulations, highlighting their ongoing consultation with community members and government officials. “Our track record speaks volumes regarding our community development initiatives, supported by pictorial evidence. This year alone, we donated Le53 billion, and Le20 billion last year as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),” Mr. Momoh stated.

Earlier, Ing. Samuel J. Kamara, Head of Administration at LRMG, assured that the company collaborates with relevant agencies to meet all licensing and tax obligations. “We have never faltered in our tax and licensing commitments, contrary to what has been reported by the media,” he noted.

Legal Director Svetlana Gaujon issued a stern warning to the media outlets that published the damaging allegations, demanding a retraction of their statements or the company would consider taking legal action.

The Director of Media, David V, and Mr. Dauda Sillah echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the need for responsible reporting.
