The third day of the Sierra Leone Innovates Tech Summit, held at the Bintumani Conference Centre, featured the grand launch of the **Fritong AI Club**. The event attracted students from various universities across Sierra Leone, along with delegates from other African nations and around the globe, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with passionate and dedicated tech professionals.
Alie Tarawally, co-founder of the club, expressed his enthusiasm about the launch, stating, “Artificial Intelligence is a growing phenomenon and the driver of digital transformation that’s shaping our world.”
Sulaiman Gbla, co-founder and team lead of the club, presented on “The Legal Status and Potential AI Strategy in Sierra Leone.” He emphasized the urgent need for a legal and policy framework to regulate AI activities amid their complexities.
The launch also featured Mr. Jamel Waye, a seasoned AI expert from the University of Arizona, whose insightful presentation addressed the ethical guidelines of AI. He highlighted how these guidelines can create a positive impact as the world anticipates the growth of this emerging technology.
Madam Sylvia P.P. Sheriff, a law graduate from Fourah Bay College, AI enthusiast, and key founding member of the club, introduced the founding members and encouraged participants to join the initiative.
Miss Bassiatu Ahmed Sankoh delivered an engaging vote of thanks, expressing gratitude for the attendance and attention of everyone present. She reaffirmed her commitment to the club’s growth and development.
