On Saturday, July 28, the Freetown City Council (FCC) marked a significant milestone in its infrastructure development program by officially handing over three project sites to contractors for the construction of perimeter fences. The ceremony, held at FCC headquarters, was presided over by FCC Chief Administrator Ram Tom Farmer and attended by Councillor Mohamed Daboh, Chairman of the Development and Planning Committee, along with FCC engineers and local community stakeholders.

The sites slated for new perimeter fences include the Ascension Town Cemetery, Kissy Road Cemetery, and Akibo-Bett Municipal School at Tower Hill. These projects are designed to enhance security and protect these important community assets.

In his address, Chief Administrator Ram Tom Farmer emphasized the importance of these projects in safeguarding public spaces and educational institutions. He noted that the perimeter fences would not only improve security but also contribute to the aesthetic appeal and maintenance of these sites.

Councillor Mohamed Daboh, Chairman of the Development and Planning Committee, highlighted the community’s role in maintaining these infrastructures. “These fences are a testament to our commitment to protecting our community assets. We urge all community members to take pride in these projects and assist in their upkeep,” he stated.

The construction of these perimeter fences is expected to provide several benefits

The new fences will deter unauthorized access and reduce vandalism and other security concerns.

By securing the Ascension Town and Kissy Road cemeteries, the FCC aims to maintain the sanctity and order of these resting places.

The Akibo-Bett Municipal School will benefit from increased security, ensuring a safer environment for students and staff.
